THE HAYWORTH SUMMER THEATRE CAMPThe Summer Theatre Camp at The Hayworth Theatre is a comprehensive production-oriented program, for children between the ages of 11 and 17 taught by theatre professionals. The emphasis of the program is on developing self-confidence and teaching the concept of teamwork, while bringing out the best of your child’s talents. Our Summer Theatre Camp has a strong focus on all aspects of the theatre including, acting, scene study and improvisational skills, producing, set design, sound and lighting design, costuming, stage managing, Our performance workshop develops stage presence and other aspects of theatre and nurtures the concept of collaboration as a team to create a production they can all be proud to stage. Sessions will begin with a three day survey class in which each child will have “hands on” experience of all vital roles in putting up a show such as, costumer, set designer, sound designer, stage manager, production assistant, director’s assistant, and casting director. At the end of the 3 day survey each child will be given a survey ballot to select his/her, first, second or third choice of these vital roles that they will then carry out. The first two weeks of the camp each child will be involved in workshops covering all aspects of theatre production, the final week will focus on preparing for the final production in which every child will have the opportunity to perform as well as fulfilling the production job of their choice. The Summer Theatre Camp consists of two three-week long sessions. Children are welcome to join one, two, or all sessions. No audition is required. A healthy lunch will be provided every day for your child. Two complimentary tickets for each performance will be given to the Workshop participants. The two three – week sessions run Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Children are to be picked up promptly at 3:00 p.m. Each session culminates in a public performance staged by the Workshop participants on the following Saturday & Sunday of each session. Students are dismissed on the last Friday before show day at 12 noon. No special footwear is required but students are required to wear tied shoes or sneakers (NO SANDALS or OPEN TOE SHOES) as they will participate in movement sessions daily. Our goal in the Summer Theatre Camp is to help each young person develop poise and self confidence and we encourage the kids to cultivate their talents and abilities. Traci McWain |
